Yodio Summary of Social Networking
When viewing "Shift Happens" and "Vision: 2011",I couldn't help but think of my mother that is now becoming an "Ingineous Digital Citizen". Not that she is leaving me behind in her tracks, but she does things daily on her IPAD that I have not even accomplished yet. Of course I do feel a little intimidated that 3 year olds and 65 year olds know more about technology than I do, but I will catch up!
In Shift Happens,I never would have thought of Facebook as a country. That statistic astounded me. Of course now, it makes a lot of sense since people all over the world are using it. I have not become a user of twitter yet, but the fact that popular celebrities have more followers than certain countries makes me slightly nervous that all of a sudden you are becoming "the news." Also, the fact that "news finds us" is a little scary, but these are the realities of today.
In thinking about working with 1st and 2nd graders, I know that some teachers are using IPads in the classroom for children to work on projects. In my preschool classroom children used technology daily to play learning games that even I had a hard time with technologically. The children in my class learned quickly how to navigate the computer. How this will impact my students is first of all, I need to catch up! In order to be able to prepare them, I need to be on my own journey of becoming a "Ingeneous Digital Citizen". I think that even though younger students are still learning to read and write, technology is another tool that can be useful in that process.
Blogging in Education
When thinking about teaching in the elementary grades, I think that doing a project like Mrs. D's 4th Grade Class!" would be amazing. Using a blog for creating a classroom community is what interestes me most. Children learn in many different ways and blogging would give each child the opportunity to examine those ways. In an elementary classroom as children are beginning to strengthen their writing skills, peer review would be an excellent way for children to first of all connect in a community, but also strengthen their feedback skills and communication skills also. Blogging kind of gives each student an even playing field and the opportunity to have an individual experience taylored to their style of learning.
Post 1: Personal Bio
Hi Everybody! My name is Ivy. I am 33, I live in Falls City, OR. Falls City is a town of about 900 people, just outside of Dallas, OR. I wasn't born here, but have lived here for almost a year. My folks live here, so it is nice to be close. I'm originally from Lincoln City which is on the central Oregon coast.
I went to University of Oregon for my undergraduate studies and earned a Bachelor Degree in English Literature. Sometimes people ask me what I would do with an English Degree. The answer is, "I don't know." I love to read and write and I love literature, so it was a pleasure studying something I love so much. My English degree let me to teaching. I began working with children in college, mostly toddlers, and love it. After college I ended up teaching preschool at a Head Start Program. After a couple of years of teaching I moved into a management role. I have missed being in the classroom and with the children, that is why I am pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching. One day I would love to teach in a bilingual Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade classroom. I love working with younger children.
I don't have any children of my own yet, but I do have 2 golden retrievers named Rex and Rosie. They are siblings and they are about 1 1/2 years old. They make me laugh everyday. Even though they are siblings they are very different. They love to go hiking with me. There are some very beautiful areas to hike in Oregon and I look forward to visiting those places with Rex and Rosie.
I am very excited to be in the Willamette MAT program! I look forward to working with my classmates in order to become the best teacher I can!
